The purpose of Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) systems are twofold. 1. Crimes are much more likely to be solved with video surveillance and 2. CCTV’s serve as a prevention technique. Introduced in the 1970′s, there are more than 25 million CCTV’s currently in operation around the world. CCTV’s can be seen on nearly every corner of every major city and have become key in solving crimes. The most recent example is the release of photos of the Boston marathon bombing subjects. These images came from CCTV security cameras in the area, which led to the identification of the suspects.
